Recently, Park Jongseong (also known as Jay) of Korean pop group ENHYPEN received a tour of the Red Bull Racing garage and met four time champion Max Verstappen. In this post, I will talking about how this opportunity happened as well as how social media played a role in this.
When Park shared the news that he was a fan of Formula One, fans took to social media (myself included) to share that some of his fans are fans of the sport as well. Comments from fans have been filled with support and positivity. Park has stated that Verstappen and Sainz are his two favorite drivers, and that he admirers what they do. Sainz is a driver for Williams this current season.
Park spoke about Verstappen at one of his concerts and was chanting “du du du Max Verstappen” while wearing a black dress shirt. In one of his livestreams, a fan asked him “Hamilton or Verstappen?”, as in which driver was better. Park replied with “ask me about mom or dad…that’s easier.”
After photos and videos were published on social media platforms, Park took to Weverse, a global live-streaming platform and spoke about his experience meeting the Red Bull Racing team and visiting the garage. He stated that he “almost cried but he didn’t” and would not be able to sleep due to the earlier event or calm his excitement. Also, Park mentioned that Sainz was the first driver he noticed when he got to the venue as Sainz was being interviewed near the Red Bull garage.
Park met Verstappen at the Singapore Grand Prix circuit and had a quick interaction with Tsunoda, Verstappen’s teammate due to Tsunoda’s busy schedule. In a video posted on the Red Bull Racing Instagram, Park is seen dressed in a Red Bull jacket and a VIP pass clearly visible around his neck. He is patiently waiting with his members Sunghoon, Jake, Sunoo, and Jungwon as Verstappen enters the room. Park shook hands with Verstappen and congratulated him on his GT3 debut and the birth of Lily, his daughter.
He looked visibly nervous to be in front of his Formula One idol. Verstappen asked how long he and his members were staying in Singapore for. Park’s fellow member Jake replied with “Friday to Sunday, we have a concert here.” Verstappen nodded, thanked them for coming and took a photo with them.
After the series of events, Park expressed how grateful he was for this opportunity and admitted that Red Bull asked him to attend the Singapore Grand Prix on Sunday. He was unable to due to the conflict of his schedule and the race. He hopes to attend a Grand Prix in person one day if his schedule permits and he has the availability to.
Formula One fans and ENHYPEN fans have been making edits of the interaction between Park and Verstappen. Personally, I have only heard good things from both sides of the fandom. ENHYPEN fans started getting interested in the sport while F1 fans have gotten interested in ENHYPEN’s music. Each community is growing and slowly becoming a more positive space.
